Question by jofanon: Dogue de Bordeaux and Dalamation?
I have a year old male Dalmation and am planning on buying a female dogue as a pup. Anything I should be worried about?

Obviously the excercise requirements will be different. Also, my very soft dal is fine of the lead – should dogues always kept on the lead?

Any advice on keeping 2 dogs would be nice! I.e. should they sleep in different parts of the house etc.

If you own a dal, then you already know they need tons of exercise. They can run for MILES, and HATE walking….
there is no reason to keep them apart as far as sleeping. I have never had a problem with that department. Dogs are pack animals, and very social oriented. as long as you establish your dominance with both of them, you should not have a problem, and they will be glad to have each other for company, esp. at night.

when you get your second dog, introductions are essential. walk them together to introduce them. be sure to keep them both on the side of you, not in front. side or behind you. the pack leader is in front, and NEVER allows another dog to walk in front of them, or pull them. once you establish your leadership, the rest will fall into place.
My suggestion is to sign up both dogs for obedience class. This is for both you and the dogs. this will help you understand them better, and what their needs will be to help them thru the adjustment periods.
Dogues can be very demanding, and stubborn. patience is important. Anytime you train or handle the dogs, it is important you remain calm and assertive. a pack leader is always calm and assertive. the followers will then relax, and be calm and submissive, making handling and training easy. Always walk the dogs before any training, or class, to relax them and YOU.
