Constantly tearing each other apart?
Question by Yorkie; Dogue de Bordeaux: Constantly tearing each other apart?
I have two dogs.
Princess Daisy Duke – Yorkshire Terrier (6 years)
Fleur de Lis Silly Lily- Dogue de Bordeaux (5 Months)
They love each other, they do. They are so mouthy to each other. They sit there and all you hear is the yorkie growling and yelping and the mastiff just snorting. They are constantly going at it. I’m afraid as my mastiff gets bigger the yorkie may get seriously hurt. I try to stop them from fighting and its more of the yorkie provokeing the fights. She walks up to her and bites her jawls.
Also.. they seem to trying to be dominate. No matter what I do to the mastiff she wouln’t submiss. The yorkie is submissive. I’m hopeing that this doesn’t get worse when the mastiff gets bred. I want to fix this now.. ideas?
Shes not going to be bred at 5mon. They go into heat around one, but with this breed they are not fully devopled to age 3. I can’t do obed. classes. Shes a show dog and thats not something you can do both of. >.<
Yes, the yorkie is fixed. She does show submission to the mastiff.
She rolls on her back ..she goes up to her and kisses her.. she acts like the mother to lily.

First of all, this is one of the oddest combinations of breeds I can imagine. I hope you don’t think the Yorkie WON’T get injured eventually.
Then you say that the yorkie is submissive but she is the one who is instigating the fights. THAT is not submission in any terms.
If your mastiff won’t submit to you now, at just 5 months old, you are going to have major problems in the future. You need to start taking the mastiff to obedience classes as soon as she gets her rabies shot and get her under control before she is to big to control.
I definitely would not, under any circumstances, leave a toy dog loose with a large working dog that is a guardian breed. That is just asking for trouble.
And thinking about breeding a 5 month old is pretty crazy too…
