I own a staffie and 2 acds – both on the breed ban lists so i do receive alot fo critisum when i vaca or travel in the states (im from canada)

As a breeder of standard show poodles and a long time member of the AKC, I must say quite a few of these dogs I have never heard of and I know are not recognizes by the AKC. So for A area to ban them is a joke. I don’t think banning any dog will solve the problem of dog attacks. Because if somebody has their dog banned they will move to another area and then that area is banning dogs.

In my own opinion let the people have what ever dog they want but make them get a large lets say like a million dollar insurance policy on the dog or dog that are deem as biters. And also make people that intend on breeding their dog/dogs obtain and retain permits for these dogs.

Banning is not the answer.

Hi,

Keep in mind that not all those breeds are necessarily banned when ever BSL is introduced. This would just be a comprehensive list of all breeds that someone has found are banned in at least one area (and not necessarily always for the same reason).

I would focus on a couple of things in your letter. First on efficacy. To my knowledge, there is no good evidence that breed bans actually reduce the number of serious dog bites when they are enacted. Encourage them to look at the statistics from other areas themselves (or present them directly).

Secondly, how enforcable is the ban? How do you determine if an animal, does or doesn’t fall under the legislation? Pure bred, registered dogs, are surely the least of their concerns, so they need an independent, unbiased method to tell which dogs do, and don’t fall under the legislation, and to decide who is responsible for determining which dogs fall under it. Does “innocent until proven guilty” apply? Or is it up to the individual dog owner to prove that their dog doesn’t have any ‘breed x’ in them? At what point is a certain amount too much? Is a dog that is 10% genetically a banned breed not allowed? 20%? 50%? 75%? Any where you draw the line is completely arbitrary.

Lastly, there is the animal welfare argument. I wouldn’t harp on this one too much. Its true, and certainly an issue, but I don’t think it will carry much weight with your audience (the argument being about the number of dogs that end up in shelters everywhere and ultimately euthanized after legislation like this is enacted)

I (personally) wouldn’t rely too much on emotional appeals, they’ve probably heard them all already from other sources.

Hi there,,after lots of research and different choices from great danes to dogue de bordeaux’s to golden retriever to bichon frise..i have come near end of my search for my pet…
i have found a perfect tibetan terrier couple owner who has a 7 month old beautiful golden puppy to sell…
tibetan terriers are low shedding so thats good for my allergies,,and i live in an apartment so it shud be easier to house one that a golden retriever(right?)…

anybody with any experience with them please drop in a comment for me on what to expect…
are they smart? are they fun ? laid back or hyper? easy to train or mischevious? do u trim their coat short(i live in humid mumbai, so i guess i will..)

any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

GOLDEN RETRIEVER? — but iv heard shedding is one of the most amongst other breeds and also they are really hard to keep in apartments coz they need lots and lots of excercise,…right??

only for the shedding. i own a golden retriever and really they aren’t that bad. definitely do not get a great dane for how big they are in an apartment. golden retrievers are probably the best choice for living in an apartment, they dont bark very much, their shedding isnt that bad just as long as u have a good vacuum. i would go for the golden retriever.
